- Col. Carl W. Gatzke '42 of Killeen, TX, died Sept. 26. He retired from the Army as Lt. Col. after 22 years of service during World War II and Korea. He received many military awards, including the American Campaign medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign medal with two bronze service stars, World War II Victory medal, and many others. After his Army retirement he entered civil service as a deputy special service officer. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Killeen where he served as treasurer for 25 years, the Men's Club-salt group and trustee of District Lutheran Laymen's League. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, dancing, gardening, and playing bridge. Survivors include his wife, Loretta, and two daughters.
